A brief history of the Milwaukee Road route from Minneapolis to the Missouri River:

02/25/23

This old girder bridge crosses 31st Avenue in South Minneapolis. It carries one active track, one abandoned track and a trail.
Built in 1893, the bridge is a simple girder construction, with three spans. The piers are steel and the substructures are concrete and stone. The girders are arranged in a 4-beam pattern, which may possibly indicate a strengthening at some point.
Overall, the bridge is in good condition. Unlike other Midtown Greenway bridges, this one has not been rehabilitated.

The author has ranked this bridge as locally significant, due to the common design. The 1893 date was provided by the National Bridge Inventory, although the accuracy is unknown. However, it does appear as if it may be accurate.
